Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said that the proposed Amendments to the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure will not be presented to Parliament on January 8.

This was said in Parliament as a response to a question put forward by UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena.

Kiriella said that the decision was taken in lieu of reservations made by several MPs.

The TNA had earlier called for the withdrawal of the proposed bill, while the National Freedom Front and several other parties had also called for its withdrawal.

The Bodu Bala Sena yesterday complained to the Human Rights Council against the proposed amendments.
