Government Plans Extravagant Publicity Campaign For President's Inauguration On January 08

December 22, 2015

The Good Governance government, which came to power with the election victory of President Maithripala Sirisena on January 08, this year, has planned an extravagant publicity campaign to celebrate the President's inauguration ceremony.

Religious events have been planned across the country by the government on January 08 to celebrate the 1st year anniversary of President Sirisena's election victory.

A cultural show has been organised on the evening of January 08 with the participation of politicians from all parties. It is learnt that even the local government representatives of main political parties have been invited to attend the cultural show which will take place at the Independence Square, Colombo 07.

Sources from the Presidential Secretariat said special committee had already been appointed to take measures in this regard.

State media has already been advised to prepare special programmes and newspaper supplements to appreciate the President's contribution to the country's "good governance" and democracy.

Similar extravagant media shows and publicity campaigns were organised by the previous government using tax payers' money to celebrate  the inauguration of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. This conduct was widely criticised by the Common Opposition, led by President Maithripala Sirisnea, during its Presidential election campaign early this year.
