Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the Welikada prison a short while ago to meet the suspects who have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda. 

The UPFA group supporting former President Rajapaksa are critical of the move to arrest intelligence wing members over the journalist's disappearance. The former President's visit to the Welikada prison came a few days after MP Keheliya Rambukwella claimed that the UPFA group supporting Rajapaksa would donate their MP salaries to the family members of intelligence wing members under arrest. 

The CID has already found evidence to suggest that the journalist was abducted in Colombo, and later taken to Girithale Army camp. He had been detained at the army camp for several days and the intelligence wing members had questioned him over a booklet titled 'family tree' and his alleged connections with former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka. 

Eknaligoda was abducted two days before the Presidential election in January, 2010.
