Two former Cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are likely to assist the Sri Lankan cricket administration as a direct outcome of Thilanga Sumathipala's victory at the SLC election.
"Mahela will probably take up a role in cricket development, an area for which he has a penchant. Sangakkara, one of the most accomplished cricketers in the world, can be projected as an international cricket administrator representing Sri Lanka," a sources close to the Sumathipala camp told Asian Mirror.
"There were unofficial discussions with the two former star players. There is no commitment so far. But, we strongly believe that they will extend their fullest support to the country's cricket administration," he further added.
Sumathipala, who achieved a comfortable victory at the SLC election held this morning, has two former President's in his team. They are Jayantha Dharmadasa who was elected as the Vice President and Mohan de Silva elected as the new Treasurer of the SLC. Sumathipala himself is a former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka.
Sangakkara and Jayawardene ran into numerous issues with Arjuna Ranatunga and Nishantha Ranatunga when the two players were representing the national team of Sri Lanka. Both Sangakkara and Jayawardene, addressing a full-scale press conference in Colombo following Sri Lanka's victory at the last T20, lashed out at the cricket administration for creating a controversy around their retirements.
