Government Considers Elevated Highways To Ease Traffic Congestion

The government is considering building elevated roads as a solution for serious traffic congestion in urban areas, especially Colombo.

The project is expected to start in this year under the purview of the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development.

The first highway of the project is to be constructed joining Fort and Athurugiriya, which is to be 21.6 kilo metres in length. It is planned to be constructed through Malabe, Battaramulla, Rajagiriya, Dematagoda, and Orugotawatta areas.

The project is said to be estimated at Rs. 130 billion.
