'Joint Opposition' Opposes Constitutional Assembly

The ‘Joint Opposition’, which backs former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, expressed its displeasure with the government’s proposal to appoint a constitutional assembly consisting of all PMs, said UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena.

Gunawardena said that the ‘joint opposition’ decided to hold a discussion with President Maithripala Sirisena regarding the issue.

He expressed these views at a press conference held at N. M. Perera Centre, Borella, yesterday.

The decision to oppose the proposal was reached at a meeting of the joint opposition MPs, Gunawardena said, adding that their response would depend on the President’s stance.
