Contempt Of Court: Media Institutions Ordered To Submit Recordings Of Gammanpila's Press Conference

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya ordered several media stations to hand over their reports and recordings on UPFA MP Udaya Gammanpila's press conference on January 11 to the Keselwatte Police.

This order was given regarding an investigation on alleged contempt of court by Gammanpila.

Accordingly, Gammanpila criticized the court decision to grant bail to UNP MP Hirunika Premachndra hours after her arrest last Saturday. This could be a punishable offense under Section 55 (2) of the Judicator Act, the police said, filing a 'B' report. The police also requested an order to be given to media institutions to submit for video footage and reports on the press conference.

The Magistrate ordered several TV stations to hand over the recordings to the Keselwatta Police. Meanwhile, several newspapers were ordered to handover newspaper clippings of the reports on the press conference.
