Controversial Company Not Responsible For Rathupaswala Water Contamination: CEA

February 09, 2016

The contamination of ground water in Rathupaswala was not a result of the activities of the Venigros factory which was located in the area, Central Environment Authority informed the Court of Appeal yesterday.

In a report filed through the Attorney General's Department, the CEA said that the pH of the ground water was not within the permitted levels recommended by the SLSI. Therefore, the water is not suitable for drinking, the CEA also recommended.

These facts were revealed when the writ petition filed by the Siyane Water Protection Association and the Centre for Environmental Justice was taken up for hearing by the court.

The petitioners asked for time to study the report and considering the request, the court fixed the next hearing for April 28.
