The government is in fear of losing the Local Elections and is therefore postponing it as much as possible giving various excuses, UPFA MP S.M. Chandrasena said today.

Speaking to the media, Chandrasena said that the government was denying the democratic rights of the people by postponing the elections.

The Local Government Bodies are equivalent to the village councils of the past, he said, and they look into the local development and other work. Now that most of the LG bodies have been handed over to the supervision of a government commissioner, the local welfare work have come to a standstill, he argued.
