Missing Persons Commission Mandate Extended

February 16, 2016

The mandate of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Missing Persons has been extended by three months.

The three-member committee was headed by former High Court Judge Maxwell Parakrama Paranagama. The other members were Mano Ramanathan and Priyanthi Suranjana Vidyaratna.

It was appointed through the Extraordinary Gazette No. 1823/42, and was mandated to investigate the complaints on missing persons in the Northern and Eastern Provinces during the period June 10, 1990 and May 19, 2009.

The commission sought an extension as its tenure ended in mid-February.
