Minister S.B. Dissanayake proved by his statements that President Maithripala Sirisena mis-used executive powers, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila said.
Speaking at a press conference today, the PHU General Secretary argued that Dissanayake’s comments, if they are true, confirmed that arrests are made on political decisions taken by the President and the Prime Minister.
“According to Dissanayake, the President has said that arresting Namal Rajapaksa and Sriyanthi Rajapaksa was prevented by a decision made by him, with the Prime Minister. This proves that arresting individuals has been politicalized. President and the Prime Minister decide whom to be arrested or not”, Gammanpila said.
He also argued that if these claims are true, this is an instance where Sirisena mis-used his executive powers.
S.B. Dissanayake yesterday claimed that Rajapaksa resigned as SLFP Chairman after he came to an agreement with Sirisena that Namal Rajapaksa and Shiranthi Rajapaksa will not be arrested.
“Rajapaksa will have to tell the truth of the matter” Gammanpila said.
