Reginald Cooray Assumes Duties As Northern Province Governor

The newly appointed Governor of Northern Province, Hon.Reginald Cooray took over the duties to-day morning at Governor’s Secretariat in Jaffna.

The Governor was welcomed by the Secretary to the Governor, Secretaries of Provincial Ministries and other political and social leaders.

Northern Governor Hon.Reginald Cooray and Northern Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran jointly hoisted the National Flag and the Northern Provincial Flag respectively at the Welcoming Ceremony. The National Anthem was sung in both languages Sinhala and Tamil for first time in a function at Northern Governor’s Secretariat.

At the Welcoming Function members of Provincial Council, Members of Parliament, State Minister of Child Affairs and Chief Minister Northern Province gave their speeches of appreciation and felicitation to the new Governor.

Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran pointed out that the long experience of the new Governor as a Parliamentarian, Minister of Central Government and the Chief Minister of Western Province would guide him to lead the Administration of Northern Province.

"We have to mix independence and inter dependence. Countries and Nations are interwoven, and inter-related. According to my view point hybrid gives good result. Mixture is not a bad thing. But fundamentalists think the mixture is bad thing. According to the science and technology mixing is a very good thing" the new Governor said.
