Parliament To Vote On Constituent Assembly Tomorrow

The Parliament will vote tomorrow evening on the amended proposal for the establishment of a Constitutional Assembly to draft a new constitution.

Deputy Minister Ajith P Perera said that the decision to hold the debate on the Constituent Assembly today and tommorrow was taken at the party leaders' meeting early this morning.

The debate will be held this afternoon and tomorrow. Parliament will convene tomorrow morning and the vote will be taken up in the evening.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe tabled a resolution on January 9 to convert the Parliament to a Constitutional Assembly composed of all MPs. However, the government has ammended the proposal after considering suggestions from the SLFP members in government.
