Five prison inmates escaped from Kegalle Magistrate’s Court today after assaulting prison guards this afternoon.

Authorities were able to recapture one of the inmates while a search operation was launched to apprehend the others.

The incident occurred at around 3.45pm when the five inmates were brought to the court. They escaped from the holding cell at the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court after assaulting a prison guard.
