Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka took oaths as the Minister for Regional Development before the President a short while ago.

Fonseka, the leader of the Democratic Party, was appointed to Parliament from the UNP national list earlier this month, following a working agreement signed between the two parties.

He was appointed to fill the position in Parliament vacated by the demise of the former Lands Minister M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena.
