Kamburupitiye Harsha, who is said to be an underworld gangster, succumbed to his injuries following a shooting earlier in the day.

He was shot at by two gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle and entered his home at Obeysekarapura in Welikada. The motorcyclists were wearing face-covered helmets.

Harsha was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital but died within a few hours of the shooting.
