'Athugala' Exploded Due To Excessive Heat: NBRO

Director of Landslide Research & Risk Management Division of National Building Research Organisation R. M. S. Bandara yesterday stated the explosion of ‘Athugala’ rock in Kurunegala on 19th was occurred due to prevailing excessive heat.  

A portion of Athugala rock was exploded at around 10pm on Saturday. Two spots of the rock were cracked with over a 50m stretch which was about 2ft deep.

The explosion occurred in the area near the North-Western Provincial Council building complex.
