Minister To Report To Parliament On Electricity Breakdowns Today

Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya will report to the Parliament on the recent power breakdowns in the country, including the island-wide power cut, which was the worst blackout in 20 years.

The recent blackout was said to be caused by an explosion in a substation in Biyagama on March 13. Power was not completely restored until the next Friday due to failure of the Norochcholai Power Plant.

Meanwhile another explosion at a substation in Kotugoda, Ja-ela, resulted in power breakdown to several areas last Friday.

A team of German experts arrived in the country to investigate the explosions.
