CEB In Serious Difficulty As Water Levels In Central Highland Reservoirs Fall

Water levels at Castlereigh and Maussakelle reservoirs have recorded a 40 feet drop from spill level due to lack of rain in central highlands during the last three months, power plant engineers stated.

According to engineers, decreasing water levels in these two reservoirs is directly affecting the hydropower generation in key hydro power stations such as Vimalasurendra, Laxapana, New Laxapana, Polpitiya, and Canyon.

However, hydro-electricity will be added to the national grid during the peak hours, they stated.
