The Frontline Socialist Party, which is a breakaway group of the JVP, will hold five commemorative meetings to mark the 45th anniversary of the 1971 JVP Insurrection.

The meetings will be held in Gampaha, Galle, Kegalle, Badulla and Dambulla.

The insurrection was the first armed uprising in the history of independent Sri Lanka and broke out on April 5, 1971. It was crushed by the authorities within weeks.
