Two Customs Officers Involved In Rs 125 Mn Bribe Released On Bail

Two customs officers who were in remand custody over the recent incident of soliciting a bribe of Rs 125 million were released on bail today by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya.

They were each released on a cash bail of Rs 200,ooo and two sureties of Rs 5 million each.

A travel ban was imposed on them and they were ordered to report to the Bribery Commission each Sunday.

The two officers were arrested on February 24 after investigations carried out by the Bribery Commission.

Three customs officers were arrested in October 2015 while alleging soliciting the bribe. They are currently on bail.
