The Colombo Crimes Division informed the Colombo Magistrate Courts that six out of eight Indians arrested for immigration law violations had sold one of their kidneys each, at a price of Indian Rs 500,000.
This was confirmed by questioning the arrested individuals, the CCD said. They further said that the JMO reports confirmed the removal of kidneys.
Most of the six individuals have also told the CCD that they were not paid the money as promised. These people are Telugu speakers and a translator's assistance was needed in questioning them, the CCD also informed.
Furthermore, 286 documents and 26 rubber seals were also taken into custody along with the eight arrested and these documents will be sent to India through the Interpol, CCD informed.
The eight people were remanded till April 4.
