Parliament Meets As Constitutional Assembly Today

The Parliament will meet as a Constitutional Assembly for the first time today for the purpose of drafting a new constitution.

The motion to convert the parliament to a Constitutional Assembly was presented by the Prime Minister in early February. However, the proposal initially met with still resistance from the opposition as well as the SLFP MPs in Parliament.

However, all parties came to an agreement on the process later.

Accordingly, the Constitutional Assembly will hold its first meeting this afternoon.
