President Maithripala Sirisean yesterday said that the Local Government elections will be held i early 2017.
He made this revelation speaking at an event in the Sri Lanka Foundation.
The terms of most of the local government bodies have already expired and they are now being administered by a special commissioner. The government had earlier said that the elections will be held this year. However, the government soon made it clear that the election is unlikely to be held this year.
The LG election is to be held under the new electoral system. The complaints regarding delimitation have to be considered before the election is held, Minister for Provincial Councils and Local Government Faizer Mustapha said recently.
