North Western Province Councilor Kamal Indika, who allegedly led the assault against a group of artistes attached to the 'Aluth Parapura' on December 29, 2014, was awarded an electorate organizer post by President Maithripala Sirisena.

Indika was appointed as Hiriyala Electorate SLFP Organizer this morning, replacing Salinda Dissanayake.

The 'Aluth Parapura' artistes, who played a vital role in the election campaign of President Sirisena, were in Kumbukgate in Kurunegala District to participate in a concert when the incident occurred.

This was one of several assaults against artists who were campaigning for the then common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

The 'Aluth Parapura' has convened a press conference for tomorrow, to express displeasure at the move by the President.
