Colombo Fort Magistrate Reprimands Police Narcotics Bureau

The Police Narcotics Bureau was severely reprimanded by Colombo Fort Magistrate for not being prepared for the case regarding the recent seizure of 110kg of heroin off the coast of Sti Lanka.

Seventeen individuals, including a minor were arrested in relation to this incident. Fourteen of them are foreign nationals.

When the case was taken up today, the PNB officers attending the trial was found to be ignorant of specific evidence against the arrested individuals.

The Magistrate reprimanded the PNB and asked it to send a informed officer to court. The officer who was attending the Magisterial Inquiry should be aware of the facts of the case, the Magistrate also observed.

Sixteen individuals were further remanded till May 17 and the minor was returned to probationary custody.
