Parliament Briefly Suspended Following Tense Situation On Supplementary Bill

The Parliament was briefly suspended this morning after protests by the opposition MPs regarding the passing of the supplementary appropriation bill last evening.

The JVP and the 'Joint Opposition' slammed the passing of the bill, adding that the votes were counter erroneously.

The Joint Opposition raised the issue today, creating a tense situation in the Chamber.

A supplementary Appropriation Bill for Rs 55 million for the 2016 fiscal year moved by the Government was passed in Parliament yesterday with a majority of just 2 votes. However the opposition insisted that the votes were not counted correctly.
