Four Member Committee Appointed To Look Into Vote On Supplementary Estimate

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya appointed a four-member committee to look into the controversy regarding the vote on the Supplementary Estimate last evening.

Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan is to head the committee while former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, and Minister Rauff Hakeem have been appointed as other members. The committee is to submit a report to parliament.

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake opposed the committee, pointing out that all the members have voted in favour of the supplementary estimate.

A supplementary Appropriation Bill for Rs 55 million for the 2016 fiscal year moved by the Government was passed in Parliament yesterday with a majority of just 2 votes. However the opposition insisted that the votes were not counted correctly.
