Govt To Relocate Galle International Stadium: 100 Acre Land Earmarked For New Stadium

Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardena stated that the Galle International Cricket stadium will e relocated to a different place near the city.

Speaking at an event on Sunday, Abeywardena said that it was unfair to deny the ground for the children and others engaged in other sports.

He said that it was a crime to deny access to the ground for the public.

Abeywardena said that a new international cricket stadium will be constructed in a 100 acre land in the Mattegoda area near Galle.

The Galle International Stadium, completely destroyed in 2004 by Tsunami waves, was repaired by the government at the request of the Sri Lanka Cricket.
