Thajudeen Murder: Narahenpita Former Crimes OIC Ready To Give Confidential Statement

Former Narahenpita Police Crimes OIC Sumith Perera's lawyers today requested for bail for their client on the basis that he had acted on instructions of higher police officials regarding the investigation in to the death of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.

The lawyers said that Perera was also prepared to give a confidential statement before the Magistrate.

However, the CID objected to granting bail on the basis that the investigations have not been concluded. Around 30 police personnel have been questioned over the suppression of investigations in to the murder, the CID said, adding that the suspect could influence the investigations.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris considered the submissions and ordered the suspect to be remanded till May 26.
