Record Rainfall Wreaks Havoc In Kilinochchi

A record rainfall of 373.2 mm on yesterday wreaked havoc in Kilinochchi District as relief work was hindered by roads blocked by floods.

The Punerin-Mannar road was flooded in Kilinochchi District, disrupting traffic. Meanwhile, Panankatti, Sivapuram, Periyaparanthan, Urthirapuram, Akkarayan, Muruthanagar, Ananthapuram East, Puliyanpookanai, Murusamottai, Puliyankulam and Punarin areas were flooded.

TNA MP S. Sritharan took part in a field trip in the area to inquire into the plight of the people battered by the rains and floods.

The Kilinochchi DMC said that it was still not possible to ascertain the exact number of people affected by floods. Some of them have been moved to safe places, the DMC said further.
