A hartal campaign was launched in parts of the northern province today, to remember the people who died during Sri Lanka's civil war.

The hartal, organized by Mullaitivu and Puthukuduirippu Trade Society was held in the two towns.

All privately owned shops were closed in the two towns.

However, government offices and banks functioned as usual.

Memorial events were held across the north and east to mark the seventh anniversary of the end of the war.
