Government Warns Of Health Hazards As Floods Spread Across Island

Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala today warned people of the risk of possible health hazards due to the flood situation prevailing throughout the country.

Speaking at a press conference at the Government Information Centre, he said that the spread of diseases could occur, specially through water.

Water should always be boiled before using drinking purposes, he warned people.

Meanwhile, he also said that any pregnant woman in a temporary shelter will be transferred to hospitals as a precautionary measure, to protect them from health hazards.

More than 300,000 people have been evacuated to safe locations around the country.
