Anura Senanayake Taken In For CID Questioning For The Third Day

Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake has been taken in for questioning by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for the third day.

The former senior Police officer is being questioned over the killing of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.

Senanayake was the Police chief in the Colombo district at the time of the rugby player's murder. The investigations into his death took place under the direct supervision of Senanayake, in 2012. It has been revealed that Senanayake instructed his junior Police officers to record Thajudeen's death as an "accident".

Speculation is rife that the former senior Police officer will soon be arrested over Thajudeen's killing. Senanayake was known to be a close associate of former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa under the Rajapaksa administration.

The former OIC of the Narahenpita Police station has already been arrested over the rugby player's murder.
