Floods 'Force' Abrew's Trial To Be Fixed For September

The trial against Supreme Court Judge Sarath de Abrew on charges of grave sexual attack on a maid was fixed for September 14 by Colombo High Court Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne.

This decision was taken when the trial was taken up yesterday as the Defence Counsel Tirantha Walaliyadde was unable to attend the trial.

A junior lawyer informed courts that the Defence Counsel was unable to attend due to the floods.

In November 2015, the Attorney General indicted Sarath de Abrew at the Colombo High Court on two counts on committing grave sexual abuse, under Section 365 (B) of the Penal Code.

A housemaid who was employed in Abrew's house lodged a complaint earlier in 2015 alleging that he assaulted her. She was admitted to Kalubowila Hospital following the alleged attack.
