The Campaign for a Free and Fair Election has slammed Home Affairs Minister Vajira Abeywardena for appointing Anusha Palpita as an Additional Secretary to the Ministry.

CaFFE points out that Palpita is one of the accused in the 'sil redi' case in which Rs 600 million of government money was misappropriated.

The appointment of Palpita violates administrative and financial regulations and reveals that the Home Affairs Ministry has no shame, CaFFE said in a press release.

CaFFE also pointed out that there were various attempts to suppress the 'sil redi' case and allow the accused to walk free.

Palpita was the former Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission during the government of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He and former Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunge stand accused in the 'sil-redi' case.
