Harin Fernando Makes Official Apology Over Using 'Unparliamentary Language'

Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando made an official apology to the Speaker and the Parliament over the recent incident where he used unparliamentary language within the chamber.

Fernando had on Monday apologized to the public through social media.

The said incident occurred last week during a heated debate. Fernando was summoned before the Speaker following the incident. The 'Joint Opposition' had requested the Speaker to take action against Fernando.

However, in his apology to the public, he said that he was provoked by similar language used by the opposition.

Nevertheless, he said that he should not have lost his cool in the middle of the debate.
