Sabaragamuwa University Lecturers Take Unprecedented Measures Against Ragging

Lecturers of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages of University of Sabaragamuwa have taken serious measures to eradicate ragging from the faculty.

Media Coordinator for Federation of University Teachers’ Association Hiniduma Sunil Senevi yesterday made a statement that lecturers of the faculty made a unanimous decision at a special meeting held yesterday to follow certain steps until it is confirmed that ragging incidents do not take place in the faculty.

Therefore, lecturers have decided to not participate in the graduation ceremonies, not participate in programmes of any sort organized by students, not provide recommendation letters and character certificates for jobs or postgraduate studies, not respond to students’ personal requests and matters, not participate in group photos, not organize parties for students, and not participate in the parties organized by the students.

The lecturers of the same faculty had adopted less strict measures in earlier situations as well.
