Lankan Monks Celebrate Vesak In Taxila, Pakistan

On the invitation of Government of Pakistan, a high level Sri Lankan delegation is visiting Pakistan to attend first-ever Vesakha Festival at Taxila.

The 43-member delegation comprised Sri Lankan ministers, senior monks, religious scholars, media representatives and pilgrims. The event kickstarted at Taxila on May 29 and would continue till June 1, the Associated Press of Pakistan said.

Sri Lankan Minister of Primary Industry Daya Gamage along with Deputy Minister for Petroleum Resources Development Anoma Gamage are leading the delegation. Press Attache of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Muhammad Daud Ehtisham is also accompanying the delegation as a special representative of the High Commission of Pakistan. Earlier, Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Dr. Sarfraz Ahmed Khan Sipra and other officers of the High Commission saw off the delegation at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

The delegation will be visiting different sites of Buddhist spiritual and religious significance in Taxila, such as Dharmarajika Stupa, Julian site, Mohra Muradu Stupa, Jandial Temple, Sirsukh site, besides visiting Taxila Museum.
