Religious Programme For Victims Of Aranayake To Be Held On Thursday

A religious programme will be held on 2nd June at Hathgampola Vidyalaya to remember the victims of Aranayake landslide, with the participation of the Army, Police, Disaster Management Unit, Divisional Secretariat, residents of Aranayake, and 60 Buddhist monks.

The Army said that search operation for victims of Aranayake landslide was continuing although the number of soldiers engaged has been reduced.

However the government recently said that it did not expect to find any more survivors.

It is two weeks after the deadly landslide hit Aranayake and almost 100 people are still missing. The recovery of the bodies has been made difficult by inclement weather conditions and the unstable mountain.

11 bodies among 35 bodies which were recovered after the landslide incident were school students. Least 25 students are assumed to be dead of the landslide occurred on May 17th.
