Boxing legend Muhammad Ali passed away a short while ago at the age of 74.

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, he later converted to Islam, taking the name Muhammad Ali.

He was known as 'the Greatest' among boxers. He was also knows as the People's Champion.

He is one of the most recognized sports figures of the past 100 years, crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and "Sports Personality of the Century" by the BBC. He also wrote several best-selling books about his career, including The Greatest: My Own Story and The Soul of a Butterfly.

Ali won the gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics in Light Heavyweight category.

Muhammad Ali lit the Olympic Lamp at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
