The Supreme Court today dismissed a Fundamental Rights petition filed by former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa ordering the prevention of his arrest over five cases filed by the FCID.
A three member bench headed by Chief Justice K. Sripavan dismissed the case, directing that there was no legal basis to it.
Through his petition, Rajapaksa informed that B reports have been filed on investigations by the FCID in Gampaha, Pugoda, Matara and Kaduwela Magistrate Courts and there was an attempt to arrest him under the Money Laundering Act.
However, the B reports have been filed misrepresenting the facts, Rajapaksa had claimed.
Rajapaksa was recently arrested on two court cases by the FCID on different occasions in May and in June. He was released on bail in both cases.
