Rohitha Abeygunawardena Admitted To ICU After Sustaining Injuries At 'Joint Opposition' Protest

UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Colombo after he sustained injuries at the protest held by the 'Joint Opposition' against Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.

He was injured when the protesters broke through the police iron barriers. He fell on top of one barrier and another fell on top of him, injuring him.

Many 'Joint Opposition' MPs joined the protest against Central Bank Governor Mahendran who has been accused of insider trading regarding Central Bank bond issues.

MPs wore black head bands and some were dressed in black shirts as they protested against the possible extension of Mahendran's services.

However, Mahendran has informed the Monetary Board that he will not seek a service extension until the COPE clears his image. This announcement was made today by the government.
