Two Weeks After Clashes CID Launches Inquiry Into Gnanasara Thera's Speech

Nearly two weeks after the Aluthgama incident, the Criminal Investigation Department has said that it has started an inquiry into the speech made by BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera.

It was widely alleged that the speech made by Gnanasara Thera incited violence in Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga Town.

A senior Police officer has informed Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senarathne that they have launched an investigation into the speech made by the BBS General Secretary.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference following his visit to Beruwala and Aluthgama, Minister Senarathne said the "law" should be strictly implemented from "top to bottom".

"If I have committed a mistake, the law should be implemented against me too. The only way we can heal the hearts of the Muslim is through implementing law. The government should understand that. Law enforcement bodies should be allowed to take action against culprits," he said.

When clashes broke out in Aluthgama and Beruwala, Minister Rajitha Senarathna was in the US, participating in a study tour upon an invitation extended by the Harvard University to study on International politics and leadership
