Government Can Obtain Two Thirds Majority For VAT Legislation, Joint Opposition Acknowledges

UPFA MP Dallas Alahapperuma said that the government can easily obtain the two thirds majority regarding the VAT legislation.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Alahapperuma said that the Joint Opposition and the JVP have opposed the VAT legislation. However, the total number of votes these two groups have is only 56, he pointed out.

He added that the position of the TNA was still not evident.

The government will be able to obtain the necessary support with the help of the SLFP MPs who joined the government, Alahapperuma said. He added that the SLFP MPs have a responsibility in ensuring that the government is unable to introduce drastic measures which could affect the ordinary people.
