President Summons 'Joint Opposition' MPs, Days Before Kandy-Colombo Protest March

President Maithripala Sirisena has invited 'Joint Opposition' MPs who support former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for a discussion this evening.

Only the SLFP MPs of the 'Joint Opposition' have been invited.

It is expected that the discussion will focus on the forthcoming protest march 'Jana Satana Pada Yatra' from Kandy to Colombo.

A section of the SLFP are demanding drastic action against any SLFP member who joins the march against the government.

Speaking at a recent meeting in Polonnaruwa, UPFA MP Dallas Alahapperuma said that he expects one million participants at the protest rally to be held on August 1 in Colombo. Alahapperuma is also a SLFP member.

The 'Joint Opposition' has the support of around 50 MPs, most of the SLFP members.
