Government Information Director General Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya said he would continue in the same position, following requests made by the President and the Prime Minister.
Earlier, there were speculations that Kalansooriya had tendered his letter of resignation due to some differences of opinion over a media report published by a vernacular newspaper, last weekend.
However, Kalansooriya, issued a statement on his official Facebook profile, this afternoon, clearing the air on the matter.
In his statementm he admitted he offered to resign from the his position as the Government Information Director General.
"As there are media reports and many queries about my decision to resign as DG Government Information, let me clarify the situation. Following some media reports about comments made by the President regarding issues at Information Department and myself, a meeting was held with the President, Prime Minister, Minister Gayantha Karunathilka and Deputy Minister Karu Paranawithana where those concerns were discussed in a cordial environment. However, I offered to resign which was refused by both President and Prime Minister and they wanted me to continue the work I have started at the Department," Kalansooriya said, in his statement.
