More Indian Fishermen Likely To Be Released In Coming Two Days

Besides the 43 fishermen who have been released from the Sri Lankan prisons on Monday, another 34 fishermen are likely to be released by the Sri Lankan authorities in a couple of days, the Tamil Nadu state government said in a statement on Tuesday.

Contending that the release of the fishermen was only due to the steps taken by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the release recalled her letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May, June and July.

A total of 77 fishermen from the State were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy between May 31 and July 15 this year.
