The CID today informed court that the investigations against Tissa Attanayake on the alleged forging of the signatures of Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe have been completed.
The matter has been referred to the AG for his advice, the CID also said.
Attanayake is accused of preparing a document claiming to have the signatures of the then common candidate of the opposition Maithripala Sirisena and the then Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during the 2015 Presidential Election campaign. The document was said to be a secret agreement between the two.
Attanayake, who was a long serving General Secretary of the UNP, defected to the government side during the election campaign. However the then President Mahinda Rajapaksa was defeated in the January 2015 election.
Attanayake was arrested in February 2015 over the incident.
