Wigneswaran Demands Stake In Moragahakanda Project For NPC

Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran demanded a stake in the Moragahatenna multi-purpose project since it plans to divert water to the northern province.

This was said yesterday when a meeting was held between the northern province political leaders and the JAICA officials to discuss the project.

Wigneswaran urged the Central Government to sign an agreement with the NPC regarding the matter.

He commended the supply of water to the north from Moragahakanda, but said that it could be used to settle Sinhalese people in newly established settlements. Wigneswaran demanded an assurance against what he called 'colonization.'
